Paperback Recasing - Practical Magic

The art of transforming a paperback into a hardback piece of art.

This month's recasing class has a little magic built in. We're working with Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman, the perfect companion for spooky season.

In this class you'll learn the art of recasing: removing a paperback cover and hand-crafting a beautiful hardback in its place. Using book board, bookcloth, and Heat Transfer Vinyl, you'll create a cover that is entirely your own. We'll attach headbands and a ribbon bookmark, and you're welcome to add a charm for a finishing touch.

Your kit includes: a Bee's Books & Binds pencil bag with a bone folder, headbands, super cloth (mull), bookcloth, book board, endpapers, bookbinding spacers, and your copy of Practical Magic.

A note on tools: we'll be using craft knives and scissors, so a waiver will need to be signed before class. Vegan bone folder alternatives (teflon or bamboo) are available on request. Please email info@beesbooksandbinds.com for these requests.

Because books need an overnight press to set properly, you're welcome to purchase a press in the shop or pop back in the next day to collect your finished book.
